Post-doc
Biochemistry and Bioinformatics
My research projects include: Reconstruction of metabolic pathways in human mitochondria and Pattern recognition in the voltage-gated ion channel proteins. Previsously (2000-2004), I worked as a post-doctoral researcher and as a bioinformatics programmer at University of California, San Diego. I earned my Ph.D. degree in 'Biochemical Engineering' from Andhra University, India in 2000.

Brian King, Ph.D. Candidate
Computer Science
Brian is currently a Ph.D. student in Computer Science at UAlbany. He returned to academia in 2003 after working 11 years as an embedded software engineer. His research is in the field of data mining, machine learning and other statistical pattern classification methods. He has previously worked with Dr. George Berg in the CS department on various problems in bioinformatics, including secondary structure prediction, domain class and boundary prediction, and evaluation of sample bias in common protein datasets. Though his current work is involved in protein classification tasks, he is focused on development of models that can be used in various protein (and DNA) classification tasks on small scale datasets as well as at the proteome (and genome) scale. He plans to extend his research toward development and analysis of predictive and/or explanatory models for any type of sequential data. His latest research is involved with predicting protein subcellular localization. For more information on Brian's research, please visit http://www.cs.albany.edu/~bking

Biophysics and Bioinformatics
My current research project is on Tracing the Evolutionary Origin of Functional Domains in Human Proteome. My research interests include bioinformatics, statistical analyses of protein structure, protein folding problem, neural networks, etc. Before joining here, I was a postdoctoral research associate (2002-2005) in Bioinformatics Center of Bose Institute in the lab of Prof. Pinak Chakrabarti. I received my Ph.D. (1996-2002) in Structural Bioinformatics from Jadavpur University, India, working in the lab of Prof. Gautam Basu in Biophysics Department of Bose Institute. I did my M.Sc. (1995) in Physical Chemistry from Calcutta University, India and B.Sc. (1993) in Chemistry from Presidency College under Calcutta University, India.

Stacey Gaddis
Undergraduate/M.S. Student
Computer Science
Stacey is an undergraduate student in Computer Science Department at SUNY-Alabny. She developed a java-based web application for tracking the usage statistics of bioinformatics web servers maintained by the Guda Laboratory.

Frank Doyle
Programmer and Web developer
Computer Science
Frank Doyle has designed and developed the web pages and underlying mySQL databases the bioinformatics web servers maintained by the Guda Laboratory.

Sifang Lu
REU Student Intern
Computer Science
San Diego Supercomputer Center
Sifang Lu was involved in developing the standalone software for CE-MC, a multiple protein structure alignemnt program. Funding support for this project was provided by the REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) grant from NPACI (National Partership for the Advancement of Computational Infrastructure)
